As I look after the website
which concentrates on the Princeton
Reverb II I
occasionally get requests for schematics for other amps in the
Rivera-era Fender range. For two years I couldn't help. But Mark
Carson on the FDP, a splendidly helpful chap, sent me several.
Others came from other places. So here you are.
This series of guitar
amplifiers was built from 1982 to 1986 and are variously referred
to as the II series and the Rivera-Era Fenders. I only own a
Princeton Reverb II and a London Reverb, so please don't ask me
questions which involve actual hands-on experience of the other
amps in the range. I recommend another single-amp site
for the Super Champ.
Aug 2020 - still looking for serial numbers!
I am trying to track how many of these amps were made. If you have one, please email me with the serial number
(Fxxxxxx, stamped into a bright-metal or grey-metal area on the
rear of the chassis, often near the air vents) and the loudspeaker
codes, if any? Thanks very much. In return I will tell you at least the year the amps was
made, and maybe a more accurate date. The speaker codes
are in white ink on the black-painted metal near the rim of the
speaker. Your privacy will be respected and no commercial use will
be made of the information. If your amp is being dismantled,
please look for a 4-digit code written or printed on the chassis
metalwork - that's a code the actual week the amp was built and
would really help me a lot. (Remove the capital letters in the
email address)

Extra note about the London Reverb,
Showman and Montreux - these 3 amps have a lot in
common; Fender only produced one owner's manual for all three.
They all have the same preamp. The Showman and the London have the
same power stage, but the London also has a 5-band graphic which
is assignable to either channel and switchable in/out on the
4-button footswitch. Since the Montreux does not have this
feature, its footswitch has 3 buttons (reverb, channel, effects
loop in/out). You can use either footswitch with any of these 3
amps but you might have a redundant button or be unable to
foot-switch the graphic in and out. The London and the Showman
share everything, including the chassis metalwork and the cab size
(when same speaker setup is used) except the power stage. which is
200W on the Showman.
I have worked out the schematic
for these footswitches (not exactly rocket science).
Here
come the schematics....

Wiring diagram for Studio Lead Footswitch (jpg)
The
original Fender part number for the footswitch was 021470. This jpg is a
rough sketch drawn by me when trying to help a Studio Lead owner.
It is a simple setup. The footswitch socket on the back panel is a
1/4" (6.35mm) stereo jack, with the body of the jack acting as
ground. If the ring terminal is grounded, the reverb cuts out. If
the tip terminal is grounded, the channel changes. There is no
provision for LEDs. So a simple 2-button footswitch, the cable 2
cores plus shield, and a stereo 1/4" jack plug is needed. This has
been verified by a Studio Lead owner, who also says the Laney FS2
footswitch works (thanks Philippe!). Please do not ask me if some
other footswitch will work - I don't know - your local music shop
should be able to check it for you with a multi-meter - but if you
find that some footswitch works from Marshall or Peavey or
whoever, let me know - thanks.
Stage Lead
This pdf file kindly supplied by
R.Roberts via the Fender Discussion Page!
Problem; this file opens OK from my hard disk
but when I test this web page, Adobe says the
file's damaged. It seems uploading it here changes
it in some way. Email me (top of this page) with
your amp's serial number and I will gladly email
you this .pdf, which contains the schematic, the
parts list and the pcb layout.
There is another 'Stage Lead' amp with a different
design and no "F" in the serial number. The info on
offer above is for the made-in-USA amp, not
made-in-Japan. Actually I've got the made-in-Japan
schematic too. Email me for it; I don't need the
serial number;I'm not tracking these.

The owner's
manual says the same footswitch (Fender p/n 021470) works for both
Stage Lead AND Studio Lead. See my notes above on the Studio
Lead.
