Sound Clips
July 2012

I am not proud of my guitar
playing.... (let me say that right now).
These little mp3 clips were recorded on a Zoom H2n handy recorder,
on axis with the speaker and about one and half metres away.
All these clips were recorded in one take and then split up in
separate files, so the recorder wasn't moved or adjusted between
these clips. The room is small with a lot of soft furnishings,
some behind the amp and some behind the recorder. The guitar is a
MIM Fender Strat, unmodified.
No external effects are used. The amp is set to volume 10, tone
controls all 6, lead volume 3, master volume 3, presence 10. The
footswitch is not used.
The amp is unmodified except for a Jensen C12N speaker and
clipping the snubber caps. My 'no NFB' mod is not selected.
This was recorded with
all valves/tubes as specified. I prefer to play with a 12AY7 in V1
but this is recorded with a 12AX7 in there as originally designed.
The power tubes are resissue Tung-Sols but they could be almost
any brand - since I'm not playing the amp anywhere near maximum
volume, they're not shaping the sound very much.
Neck Pickup, No reverb guitar
volume on 5, then on 10
Middle+Bridge pickups, no
reverb guitar volume on 10, then on 5
Reverb on 3, then on 5
Lead sound, middle+bridge
pickups, then neck pickup
Lead sound, neck pickup, turning
up reverb knob guitar on 10, with a few seconds with guitar on 5
part-way through (demonstrates
how there there is almost no reverb when lead sound is selected)
Lead sound, neck pickup, mid
boost selected
guitar on 10, with a few seconds with guitar on 5 part-way through
